Our students were visited by centenarians "Pearl" and "Daisy" who stopped by to help celebrate Kindergarten's 100th Day of School! Their alter egos, Kindergarten teachers Miss A and Mrs. Donahue, took the day off and gave Pearl and Daisy some quality time with their students.

An annual tradition at Holy Trinity School, Grandpals Day was celebrated in both the Children's Cottage and the "Big School" by all of our students and their special Valentines! Our guests danced, enjoyed snacks, made keepsakes, completed "escape room" challenges, and played Quizzo with their beloved little ones. Precious memories were made by all!

Holy Trinity School students from 7th Grade were visited by a student from the St. Lucy School for Students with Visual Impairments as the culminating event of their English Language Arts (ELA) Unit. The unit focused on perseverance as a character trait, and included studying the life of Helen Keller and other historical figures who persevered through adversity. The visit by Sister Lisa Ann Lettiere, IHM and 11-year-old Kyla marks the fifth year for this collaborative lesson between the two schools. This real-world learning activity and curriculum connection was under the direction of Mr. Jeffrey McCusker, the 7th and 8th Grade ELA teacher and school vice principal. Sister Lisa brought many of the adaptive devices the students at the St. Lucy School use to learn, and demonstrated their use to the Holy Trinity students.

Our Junior High Unit kicked-off their month-long academic competition including a parade of participating countries, playing of each country’s national anthem, running of the torch, flying of each country’s flag, and academic, physical, and team-building challenges. Our youngest students came to school dressed as a profession they hope to one day pursue. They then explained to their teachers and classmates what a person in that profession does every day and why they think they would enjoy that career. Some careers represented were veterinarians, police officers, construction workers, medical personnel, and teachers - our future world will be in very capable hands when our PreKindergarten students grow up!

As is tradition, the school was visited this morning by the Three Kings, who explained to our students their significance to the birth of Jesus and the meaning behind the gifts they brought Him. Monsignor then blessed our school and classrooms for the new year.

While Holy Trinity students love any kind of BINGO, Advent BINGO is a crowd favorite! Prayer Partners played together and exchanged small Christmas treats in between games. Dozens and dozens of prizes were awarded to our winners. This is just one of the many treasured Advent traditions at Holy Trinity School!

Representatives from our 8th Grade dressed for the holiday and delivered the Holy Trinity community's donations to the Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia! After collecting gift cards, single-serve snacks, toiletries, and toys for the past several weeks, the students had the opportunity to see the home-away-from-home where their donations will be put to use by families managing the hospitalization of a child. Thank you to all who so generously donated this Advent!

The Holy Trinity School Robotics Team took home two first-place awards at the La Salle College High School First Lego League competition! Congratulations on a job well done - you represented our school wonderfully! Our two teams were comprised of students in Grades 6, 7, and 8. Our First Grade students were treated to a special Christmas Party thrown for them by the Conwell Egan Catholic High School community! The students played games, had a visit from Santa and the school mascot, made a craft, ate cookies and candy canes, sang songs, and listened to a Christmas story. What an enjoyable morning for the students and their teachers at BOTH schools!

An annual tradition at Holy Trinity School, students in PreK through Grade 8 enjoyed a sweet snack with their Prayer Partners as the older students read a Christmas book to their younger counterparts. Each student was also presented with an ornament commemorating an event in their school year, made especially for them by their homeroom parents.

Our students are having a wonderful time selecting special surprises for their families and friends this week at Holy Trinity's annual Santa's Secret Shop! Thank you to the many parent (and grandparent!) volunteers who helped with setup, shopped with our younger students, worked the cash register, wrapped the gifts, and contributed snacks for the bake sale - you truly helped make this Christmas season a memorable one for our students!

In celebration of Computer Science Education Week, Holy Trinity students participated in the international Hour of Code event for the fifth consecutive year. Students were provided with a variety of fun, self-guided lessons specifically designed for their age groups and experience levels using the concepts of JavaScript, Tynker’s block-coding language, Python, and Scratch.

Holy Trinity School students in Grades 6 to 8 raised their awareness of global hunger issues by participating in a Junior High "Hunger Banquet," organized and hosted by the school’s Service Club. The club, under the direction of Ms. Nancy Hecker, has been working for six weeks to educate themselves on the issues relating to world hunger: surplus vs. waste, the disparity of resources, and the circumstances that can catapult a family into extreme poverty. The scripted activity was based on Oxfam America's Hunger Banquet model. Oxfam is a global organization that works to raise awareness of the injustices of poverty and to seek solutions to poverty, hunger, and social injustice worldwide.

To wrap up their ELA unit on the Middle Ages, Grade 7 students enjoyed a Medieval feast in Mr. McCusker's class. In preparation, the students each studied monologues or dialogues from the book Good Masters! Sweet Ladies!, a collection of poems and narratives in the voice of Medieval villagers. The costumed students performed their pieces then enjoyed a celebratory feast!

She gave them pointers to help them with the task of editing their writing pieces - tips she uses as a professional writer.
